Sharon Goldman performs the songs and stories from her critically acclaimed album Kol Isha (A Woman's Voice). With her Orthodox Jewish upbringing and secular/interfaith marriage as a backdrop, Kol Isha is a bold, original song journey merging Jewish imagery, myth, melodies, and memories with a modern, feminist perspective. It blends folk, pop, and blues sounds with traditional melodies, middle-eastern rhythms, Hebrew refrains and biblical texts. Sharon digs deep into memories of prayers and rituals; of roads not taken; and of voices not heard. She addresses universal issues of identity, family, and history, and also mines the stories of biblical and mythical women for creative inspiration.
Sharon is a New York based singer-songwriter whose intense, insightful and vivid storytelling and heartfelt, soulful performances have garnered critical acclaim — she has played at clubs, coffeehouses, house concerts and festivals around the Northeast U.S. for the past 15 years and tracks from five solo albums have been played on folk, indie and college radio around the country and internationally.
"KOL ISHA is 'pearls of songs'" (Basya Schechter, Pharaoh’s Daughter)
“Goldman offers both defiance and longing as she examines her past. She caresses the memory of a ritual and recasts it in a modern light, revealing why she cast it aside, but the ancient language tumbles out from somewhere deep in her soul.” (New Jersey Jewish Journal). www.sharongoldmanmusic.com
